Creativity and Progress - Final Cut Pro X
My group and I are starting to produce a filming schedule in order to begin filming the footage for our music video.
From our past experience creating an opening sequence for a psychological horror film, my group and I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge using editing software, for example, Final Cut Pro X. However, we believe that we still have areas using this software in which we need to improve and gain even more knowledge on.
In order to begin this journey we researched and watched step by step tutorials on Youtube to see how we could successfully achieve different techniques using this software.
This was extremely helpful as it refreshed a great deal of my existing knowledge but also gave me insight into the spectrum of things that could be done using Final Cut.

Storyboard Ideas
In order to continue to make progress within my research and planning, I have produced a rough, hand drawn story board in order to gather all my groups ideas and decisions so we can begin producing a filming schedule.
As it is shown in the storyboard we would like to feature a montage involving a variety of shots and locations including the couple.
SHOT 1: The first shot featuring this storyboard is an over the shoulder shot of the male whilst the female walked towards him.
SHOT 2: This shot is the same but the other way round. We used this type of shot in order to create a sense of realism for the audience, almost like they're following the relationship and involved in the scene. As a group, one of the most important aspects which we will be focusing upon a lot in the engagement with our audience and our product, this stemmed for our past experiences as we found that the audience did not connect with our characters and the narrative we were portraying in the creation of an opening scene last year. This scene also introduces the characters in an simple way suggesting that their relationship is close and getting closer.
SHOT 3: This long shot further establishes the closeness of the couple, further allowing the audience to identify with them and possible relate to them. They might also be able to relate to these characters through their costume, both will be wearing casual and unique styling of clothing but following the 'alternative' genre by following a darker theme to the costume which will allow those of the target audience who have the psychographics of liking the black/dark costumes will be able to enjoy this music video.
SHOT 4: This is where the montage will begin. As a group we decided in order to fit in a variety of locations and allow the audience to relate and get to know the couple a montage would be the best way to do so. There will be no dialogue/monologue throughout this montage which will create

Location Research
In order to make decisions myself about the location in which my music video will be filmed, I feel it will help me if I research existing music video locations of the same genre.
From research two different types of artists who both produce and distribute music within the alternative genre it means I can gain more knowledge about the conventions of the locations and settings in order to mirror this or even challenge this in my own work.
Within this research, I found that the lighting in the majority of the locations in the videos are low key and if so they are lighten using artificial lighting of lamps and string lights. Sometimes I feel the colouring of the lighting produced indicates the mood and the feelings being conveyed in the video. This is something I feel like I will take on board when I filming a low key lighted area, for example, red lights to connote love or danger or white to connote purity and innocence.
In addition to this, I also found that the majority of the locations were public places sometimes involving extras in the background or no body. Other elements I found was the idea of partying and drugs playing a part in both videos. The first video by 'The 1975' involved aspects of illegal drugs and smoking, this is conventional for the genre and creates and very rebellious vibe to the video alongside a love story which I enjoyed. Within the second video it involved a party which is also conventional and shows a group of individuals enjoying themselves and others which is a nice element to have in a music video.
This has helped me significantly with choosing my own location choices and has given me ideas I would like to incorporate into my ideas.
